WHO
WE ARE

In 1992, several leading conservation organizations decided to form an alliance to promote and advocate for the preservation and enhancement of recreational, natural and agricultural open spaces to preserve the quality of life in southeastern Pennsylvania, the most rapidly developing region of the state.

By so doing, duplicative efforts could not only be avoided, and resources conserved, but a strong unified voice could be heard. Additionally, projects needed by all but as yet not undertaken could be managed by the Alliance. The GreenSpace Alliance (GSA) was thus conceived.

The Alliance is governed by a volunteer board comprised of a growing list of leaders from key organizations in the region, among them the Brandywine Conservancy, Chester County 2020, Chester County Open Space Preservation Office, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, Heritage Conservancy, Montgomery County Lands Trust, Natural Lands Trust, Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC), Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. The leaders of these organizations dedicate time and energy not only as board members who meet regularly but also as GSA committee chairs and members, and as host organizations for Regional Green Plan implementation work. GSA began as a project of PEC and is becoming a 501(c)(3) supporting organization.

The GSA strives to be a true model for partnerships, via the organizations that together form the Alliance itself, by catalyzing and fostering the teams that work to preserve each priority landscape, and by sharing through its website and other educational venues the best information available for effectively meeting preservation goals.
